Today marks the birthday of the “The Iron Horse”, Lou Gehrig.
So I want to start doing some photography because it has always interested me, but I want to do it right. So before I just start taking pictures I am going to study photography pretty thoroughly. You have to respect the art that you admire and I think too many people don’t get that. People tend to get in to photography in this order:
I like photography.
I should be a photographer.
Buy a DSLR.
I’m a photographer.
But that is sooo wrong. I love that photography is very accessible now, but it is still a business and an art. Here is the way that I will be getting into photography.
I like photography.
I will study photography:
History of photography.
Composition.
Lighting techniques.
Rule of thirds.
Portraits, landscapes, etc.
Study the parts of the camera.
Study lenses and their purpose.
Etc.
Start taking photos for personal study - do not publish online.
Study my pictures and how I could do better.
Study what camera I plan on purchasing.
Save up for camera.
See what kind of photography I excel in and enjoy doing.
Get advice from actual photographer friends on whether or not I have a future in photography.
IF they say yes, than purse photography full time.
I’m not saying that is the ONLY way to get in to photography, but I feel it is a good route.
If anyone has any great advice on resources for learning, let me know.
Here’s to hoping I can be a true photographer!
